AHa! Happy Birthday Adam Hughes!

How great it is to have a list of birthday celebrants on a specific day by just a flick of a finger. Coolness.

Superman by Adam Hughes
And today, one of the most talented, respected and in-demand comic book artists in the industry is celebrating his birthday! Adam is one of my favorites and if you have visited by blog before, you would have probably seen many of his works featured here. He's such a great artist and draws women with such complete bad-assery that any man would love to date them (if they were real). Doing pin-ups is his main specialty and because of the time-consuming nature of his style, he doesn't get to do monthly comic books and instead focuses on doing covers for comic book companies such as DC and Marvel. Apart from his regular work, jhe's usually seen as well during conventions doing sketches for fans.

Sadly, one of his sketches from a recent ComicCon went up for sale on Ebay.  A guy went up to Mr. Hughes pleading and crying for a sketch and of course, Adam being a class act obliged and did it for him. Then lo-and-behold, this prick sells Adam's prized work for more than $400 that the artist charged for. What an ass. As a result, Adam will no longer do commissions at conventions at this price, thus ruining other people's chances of getting a marquee Hughes' portrait during these events. It sucks I know, but I understand Mr. Hughes decision. Its his art. More details on this story at BleedingCool.

For the meantime, I chose a couple of Adam's best renditions featuring the Superman family courtesy of his website and deviantArt account to celebrate him and his remarkable skills. Wishing you all the best in life, Adam. And a big thanks for all the wonderful portraits.

Penthouse Comic Art by Adam Hughes [May Contain NSFW]

Comic artist Adam Hughes draws the most stunning women in the whole superhero universe. He's got a knack for that "pin-up" style of illustrating the woman anatomy that would make you drool. He's done Wonderwoman, Catwoman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Power Girl etc, and they're the most beautiful renditions I have ever seen. Period. And he just keeps on getting better.

Little did I know though that during his early years as an artist, he worked for the now-extinct Penthouse Comix. I'm pretty sure what Penthouse is all about so we're gonna leave it at that. Now I Googled some of his early works with the aforementioned company and found some of splash pages which showcases his very distinctive art style that is recognized by comic book readers all over the world.

Yes, they are sleazy, and some of it are x-rated. I'm pretty sure Adam regrets spending his time doing these stuff before, but hey - these are still good pieces of rare art from him. Just shows to show that even as a beginner, Adam is already the artist-extraordinaire who will eventually be one of the most sought-after comic book artists of our era. And I still love AH after seeing these. I probably liked him even more.

Action Comics 900 - Variant Cover by Adam Hughes

Saw this on my Facebook wall before I slept yesterday. Awesome work by Adam as usual.

Few comments:

Classic "breaking the chains" pose - which is really dumb in my opinion, because Superman is freaking God-like strong then you put some chains to hold him down? Are you kidding me? Just thinking out loud, here.. but hey, he chain pose is probably one of the most iconic in Supes' and comic book history, so there.

Congratulations to DC for the 900th issue of Action Comics! 100 more to go!

Single Awesome Art For Today - 03/28/11

Since I'm all Superman, why don't I share to you this gorgeous Lois Lane artwork from our friend Adam Hughes via his deviantArt page. I love the Lois' outfit and the Margot Kidder-esque look going on.

Sitting there on top of the Daily Planet building with the rotating globe in the background. Red sunset, windy afternoon, holding the unmistakable cape and looking at the horizon... Gorgeous piece.

Adam Hughes' Comic Book and Fantasy Babes

I have featured some of Adam Hughes' works from his deviantArt page but this is the first time that I truly looked at this full gallery of comic book and fantasy babes. He  has worked on the Tomb Raider (Top Cow), Wonder Woman series and currently with DC's Catwoman.

He's got a very distinctive " pin-up" style of illustrating all these characters together with some realism that gives these babes a fresh look. The fantastic curves doesn't hurt either. Definitely one of the best to draw the female anatomy out there.
