5 Facts You Need To Know About The New Action Comics #1

As reported yesterday from The Source and New York Times, here are 5 facts you need to know about the new Action Comics #1 - asides from Superman wearing a tee, jeans, boots, and a short red cape:

• Story is set 4 years in the past, and will tell readers how the became the world's first superhero.

• Superman will be a "street-level defender who defends the ordinary man and woman."

• The character has more angst... and is more brooding (Earth-One reference?)

• He doesn't have the ability to fly yet, and he will be seen leaping tall buildings in a single bound.

and finally...
 

• Superman is single and never married.

Sounds good to me.

Action Comics #1 is written by Grant Morrison with art by Rags Morales.

Grant Morrison On Action Comics #1: "Superman Doesn't Stop Moving..."

Renowned Scottish writer Grant Morisson (All-Star Superman) is writing Action Comics #1 for the new DC Universe and he talks about writing his latest incarnation of Superman in his latest Orbiting Pod podcast:

“Superman doesn’t stop moving all the way through so it’s really like as if the cameras on him for twenty pages and he never stops moving at any point… can you story where you don’t do cuts and you just follow this guy cos he’s constantly moving so fast and doing interesting things all the time. It completely changes the form.”

Superman is the most powerful being on Earth, and the idea of him moving non-stop is cool and intriguing at the same time. I'm tired of Superman just standing there and yapping readers to boredom with his old-school cliches, but I also don't want to see him move about and around doing nonsense. It has to be a balance of both.  

Its interesting to see as to what and how Morrison will entertain readers with a fresh take on Big Blue, and fans will find that out come September when Action Comics #1 is released.

This is the first time that I've read a comic book with animals as the center of attraction. Yes animals. Mainly a dog, a rabbit, and a cat in a sci-fi action story of friendship and freedom.

Trained to replace human beings as soldiers in warfare, these robotic-ally enhanced animals - who call themselves WE3 - escape the captivity of the US government after hearing that they are going to be killed by the same people who created them. And as they journey across the country, they are hunted down by the army together with other robot controlled animals, with varying reactions as they cross paths.

Grant Morrison puts forth a futuristic concept of animal soldiers: They are armed with suits or robot armor with various weapons like claws, missles etc and computer programmed helmets to help them communicate and understand human beings. They're trained to be ruthless and aggressive against the enemies of state and eliminate any hostile forces, replacing human beings as the ultimate war machines.
