How To Make A Rubik's Cube Joker (Video)

Wow. Just wow. The guy is absolutely, 100%, money back guaranteed a genius for creating such an "intimidating" mosaic of comic book villain The Joker by putting together 333 pieces of Rubiks Cubes.

David Alvarez (creator) is one hell of an artist. Period.

Shrugging It Off.

Hah, there's a lot of BS  and crap going on lately and I don't really feel good to be honest, but I have learned that you just have to move on and shrug it off. Whining is such a waste of time so instead of doing that, I just mind my own thing, take life as easy as I possibly can and enjoy it.

Its wonderful that there are so many things you can do to make your life much more stress-free like blogging, reading some humorous stuff even if they don't make sense at all, writing, having a good laugh with your friends.,or even just listening to some good ol' music that you really love. So many positive things can come out of everything if we just take a step back, relax and think of other things to do instead of whining about how bad life is, how miserable you look, or what's gonna happen tomorrow.

Ah, how beautiful it is when we don't take life that too seriously!

Saw "Watchmen" For The Nth Time...

After watching Zack Snyder's masterfully filmed comic book movie Watchmen (based on the critically acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons) a gazillion times, I'm still enjoying it. And even though the movie has its fair share of critics, most notably one of the co-creators of the graphic novel where it was based from - the great Alan Moore - I have to say that it was a success and undoubtedly one of the best comic book movies.

Synopsis via IMDB:

In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.

Trust me, that snyopsis is deceiving. Deceiving in the sense that it was described as having too simple of a plot. My friends, this movie is MORE than that.

Alright friends, forgive me for showing this, but what you're about to see is one of the most corniest attempts at a joke. Seriously.

If you're gonna find what you're about to read and see is funny and for some reason you think that I'm just stupid - please don't hesitate to comment.

Facebook Superhero Anonymous by Ashley Hay

For those of you who want to retain your anonymity in cyberspace while having a kick-ass profile picture, look no further because geek + designer Ashley Hay (heyashley.com) has just created some of the coolest facebook profile pics featuring your favorite superhero and pop-culture idols that a 5 year old can easily recognize.Take a look at some of them:

Busy...

Kind of busy nowadays because of the uber-multitasking sessions here at work. I guess the boss figured out that we've got so much freaking idle time so he found a way to stick our asses on our chairs and fingers typing on our keyboards for the whole day.

I'm finding it really hard to blog in this situation right now, so forgive me friends for not posting frequently unlike before, but I'll make sure I will post something every now and then - maybe during my lunch breaks...

I feel like The Flash, typing at 100 words per minute while answering to phone and email queries, just doing almost EVERYTHING ALL AT THE SAME TIME, and its almost exhausting like when you're running at full speed. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy going round and round all these stuff. Good thing I won't get obliterated like what happened to The Flash back in 1985 (Crisis on Infinite Earths).

What a tragic way to die. Running non stop until your body gives up on its own.

Super Multitasking

Man, my head is spinning around with this new chat project we have on going right now. Basically I'm doing all of these: answering calls over the phone, selling, emailing, making outbound calls too, all of that while answering to the inquiries of people over the chat line and convincing them to buy stuff with me! Not to mention that I'm also surfing the internet some juicy comic news, and last but not the least, blogging. Talk about super-multitasking.

I doubt Clark Kent  hated a single day at work doing all things all at the same time. And it makes me wonder too if he ever got a raise by doing that. 'Cuz I ain't. Sucks.

'Ya talkin' to me?'

And Our TV Wonder Woman Is...

... the 5'11 blonde bombshell, Adrianne Palicki.

I honestly don't know this girl, but from the picture it seems like she's got the looks and the height needed for the role, but they could've gotten a better looking actress, no? Like someone who looks MORE like an amazon warrior with that cool glamour - and not to mention - natural titties. (those transplants are kind of annoying). But I gotta admit: this girl is not afraid to show A LOT OF SKIN. (try Googling her)

Acting wise, I haven't watched her any of her shows personally, but looking at her IMDB section, it seems to me that she hasn't got any big time roles that showcases her abilities so I'm a little bit worried about how would she act this one out.

Anyway, she will be playing the titular role of Wonder Woman - who in this series is going to be reinvented as a "cimefighting-vigilante" based in LA. Not only that, she would be playing 2 alter-egos as well: one as  multi-billionaire CEO Diana Themyscira, and then second, as Diana's assistant - Diana Prince.

Wow, that assistant thingy is also getting me scared right now. Why make things so complicated? What do you think guys?

My Favorite On-Going Comic Book Titles

I usually chunk on graphic novels that have already ended years ago, classics such as V for Vendetta, All-Star Superman, We3, Batman: The Killing Joke to name a few - mainly because they are easier to read - in the sense that you can get them already collected as a single book and read them right away without having to wait for months (or even years) for the next issue unlike monthly (or bi-monthly) on-going series.

But I've got a 3 titles that I'm following right now and keep an eye on whenever have my spare time. Here's a rundown::

Superman Monthly

I know. The current "Grounded" storyline by J. Michael Straczynski sucks and even when he already left the project, it still... STINKS. Right now its on #708th issue (which I was able to read yesterday) which is written by Chris Robertson. I have to say that a change for a writer definitely removed some of that bad taste that I and a lot of Superman fans were getting from the previous issues. With that, I have hopes now that Chris can turn this series around and make it all "Super" again.

And no matter what other's say or no matter how the storylines suck, I'm still staying behind this one. I'm such a sucker for everthing Superman.

Written (now) by Chris Robertson; Art by various artists

The Walking Dead

Definitely one of the best series out there today. I actually started right from issue # 1 a year ago and was able to catch up in a month. The latest issue #80 is currently out and I'm eagerly waiting for the next issues to hit the shelves so I can say things like "damn", "shucks" "s**t", and other explicit sh.it while reading (oops sorry). That's how good this zombie-apocalypse-themed comic book is.

Its so good that they made a TV adaptation and went on to sign for a second season ready to be aired this October 2011. If that won't make you read this one, I don't know what. Maybe the zombies will.

Written by Robert Kirkman; Art by Charlie Adlard / Cliff Rathburn

Fables

My favorite on-going title. Seeing all those lovable fable and folklore characters twisted so good that I can't help but just be entertained. Bill Willingham's writing is amazing, can't even complain with the art and there are a lot of endless possibilities in store for the characters and their storylines.Really, few can argue that this is up there with Vertigo's best titles since Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

I'm on issue #78 and i've got a couple more issues to tread by before the latest  - Fables #102 which is hitting the stores today.

Written by Bill Willingham; Art by Mark Buckingham and other artists

So there are my faves. Anything you want to recommend for me? Feel free to drop your comments.

Made For Primetime TV: The Art of Corey Smith

Its really bad day for me here at work, and after all the B.S today I'm glad I'm still able to find something to be happy about: ART.

ComicsAlliance has this 'Best Art Ever' feature every week - where they showcase some of the most amazing works of art we can ever find on the internet. And I think that's what separates them from other sites, because they just make me drool and appreciate such works.

Today they have this guy Corey Smith from New Zealand who goes by the handle CS-HOWLER on deviantArt - and if you check out this portfolio here, you will find familiar comic book characters drawn like they are ready for a primetime TV slot.

Which brings me to a comparison: I featured Marcio Takara's works before here too which almost has the same style - animated TV style with a more cartoonish feel to it, and i can't help but compare that to the works of of this NewZealander guy.

My verdict? CS-HOWLER wins. Just check out this Batman version of his:

Looks bad-ass? Wait till you see some of my favorites from his portfolio after clicking on the jump. Don't forget to visit his page. (link above)

My Valentine Email... (With A Little Bit Of Help From Some Comic Nerds And Mark Millar)

This isn't the card that I sent.

Just sent an email to my girlfriend a couple of minutes ago.  We're actually going to celebrate our 1st year anniversary this coming Saturday, so yeah, I feel all warm and cuddly right now writing this. I just feel mightily blessed.

But first, I have to thank the guys at ComicsAlliance, Chris Haley (of LetsBeFriendsAgain) and the incomparable Mark Millar for creating awesome valentine cards featuring our favorite comic book heroes. Now, we finally got something bad-ass to send to our parents, girlfriend(s), ex-wives, ex-girlfriends, uncles, crushes, flings or whoever (Click on the ComicsAlliance link for the cards).

Okay! *Ahem* ... my letter  goes something like this...

Smallville's "Superboy" ... [Spoiler]

No Pencils, No Papers... Just An Ipad? No Problem For Jim Lee [Video]

Oh. My. Goodness.

Jim Lee drawing Batman on his iPad using his fingers. Yes, his... frigging' fingers!!!

It's almost ridiculous when he says that this work of his is kind of like crap, but hell, I would give anything to have a talent like that!

Awesome and inspiring work, Jim.

Comic Book Review: Promethea

Promethea
Writer: Alan Moore
Artists: J. H. Williams III and Mick Gray
Published by Wildstorm/America's Best Comics

Whew. This was one hell of a magical comic book ride.

The whole book is set in fictional-futuristic New York City in the year 1999 and tells the story of Sophie Bangs, a young-college student who is the newest vessel of a powerful entity known as Promethea  - originally a young girl whose father was slain by a Christian mob in Alexandria back in 411 B.C who became a "living story" after the god Thoth-Hermes took her into the Immateria,  a different plane of existance made of pure imagination - who's purpose is to bring about the Apocalypse/Doomsday. Several human beings through time were able to "summon" themselves or others as Promethea by channeling her energy through imagination, most of them poets and playwrights (which Sophie meets as well early in the story).

At first you would think that this is an ordinary  "good vs evil" kind of thing because at the start, Sophie/Promethea battles lots of demons from hell disguising as human beings while trying to figure out how to cope up with her "other identity." She continues to fight them through issue #12, using her newfound powers and magic, but that's as far as the superhero-action sequences go, because the book immediately becomes some sort of  magic instruction manual, with Moore writing his own philosophic views and spiritual beliefs.

Sophie's first fight as the demi-Goddess Promethea

It kind of gets a little bit boring with those "lecture" issues, where Sophie/Promethea just travels into the Immateria itself trying to learn magic and stuff. Alan Moore shows a completely different world, leaving the "Promethea vs demons" story line and jumps into telling his philosophical views, even telling the story of how the whole universe and life came about through tarot cards! He also talks about the afterlife, on what happens and what we would see when our souls leave our earthly bodies and so much more. A lot of those things I don't really understand, but I found out that you don't really have to dig in everything that Moore writes in order to enjoy the journey. You just have to go with the flow of his masterful storytelling as he takes you to a journey into the vast oceans of the imagination.

Good thing he immediately got back on track after more than 10 issues of Aleister Crowley 101, continuing Sophie's saga as she starts to realize that there is no escaping her destiny (as the Doombringer) even if she changed names and ran away from New York (where she is being hunted down as a terrorist at this point since her and Promethea's many battles in the city against foul demons) and even if she didn't transform into Promethea for 4 years.

Venom vs Spidey - Pinoy Style!

Way back when I was a kid, we used to hunt spiders and put them inside matchboxes. We will nurture them and feed them until the big fight comes - when me and my friends will pit our beloved spiders for some good 'ol fashioned "spider-fighting" action. Yeah, we're pretty crazy. But I have to admit, it was fun to watch two spiders fight to the death until one emerges as the victor... and it even gets sweeter if there's money involved. Pretty high stakes.

Imagine Venom and Spidey going at it like that. It would definitely look something like... this:

Class Begins: X-Men First Class Teaser Trailer

At last, I finally got to see Wesley freakin' Gibson turn into the most powerful telepath in comic book history!

I'm a little bit late on posting this, but better late than never. I have been refreshing my  xmenmovies' facebook page for the whole day to catch the first ever trailer of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class and I my wait was rewarded. In less than 2 minutes, I was able to see some pretty sick and high-octane badassery that I screamed and screamed like a 7 year old hearing the familiar X-Men cartoon intro. I'm just overreacting, but seriously - the trailer looks pretty good!

The film is set in the 1960s, and will show us the origins of the famous mutant team before they even became the X-Men while focusing on the early friendship and irreconcilable differences between Charles (Xavier) and Erik (Magneto) that eventually led them to create their own respective mutants groups.

Film stars James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique).

Random Ramblings: Current Reading ... Cinderella by Chrissie Zullo... Superman to be "physical"... and some cool art from K.Rocafort and Olly Moss

I immediately became a fan of artist J. H. Williams III after reading is awesome work and the latest Batwoman #0 issue to which I quickly searched for his previous works. Again, I am pretty much new to comic books so anything good before the 2000s for sure is out of my radar. But thanks to the wonderful thing called the Internet, I'm able to get my hands on one of this earliest works in 1999:

Promethea with legendary author Alan Moore

This has 32 issues in all and I have just started reading the first 10 issues, so I won't make a review yet (later I will), but this is one of a kind comic book that mixes the superhero-action genre with spirituality, religion, magic, mysticism, and history. I'm gonna save the other details after I read it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I stopped reading Fables at issue #60 almost 3 weeks ago because I got a little tired reading the storylines I guess. Its not that its because of bad story telling or art - i guess its just that you have to pause a little bit and continue it later. You can't read the same thing and see the same characters all over again, can you?

Speaking of Fables, it spawned a couple of stand-alone spin-offs like Cinderella: Fables are Forever, which by the way has been released just yesterday!  . For your enticement, here is the awesome cover for its very issue #1, courtesy of the beautiful and talented Chrissie Zullo:

Superspy-ish, and chillingly sexy. Wow.

Do not forget to visit her blog and deviant page for more of her lovely artwork, and show some support by getting a copy of Cinderella Fables Are Forever # 1.

Dark Knight Rises Fan-Made Posters Pack Some Serious Badassery

Its a shame sometimes that fan-made posters are way better than the official posters for specific movies. Creating bad-ass movie posters before much-anticipated films are released has already become a trend and such is the case for Christopher Nolan's upcoming third Batman film.

Our friends from geektyrant.com shows these two magnificent unofficial posters featuring the backs of Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy (which I think is really WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio).Created by contributors El Gato and Ryan Luck respectively (don't forget to say thank you to these guys!):

"I'm bringing Sexyback. Meow!"

Admit it: You would have thought this is a Rey Mysterio poster if it wasn't for the bat-logo.

The film will star Christian Bale as Batman, Gary Oldman as Comissioner Jim Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, and Joseph Gordon Levitt (unknown role as of now) and is set for a July 20, 2012 release.

2011 Superhero Film Galore List!

The time is fast approaching for the releases most-awaited comic book movie adaptations and to be honest, I think this year is the biggest of them all because we've got 4 big named characters showing up in latex, spandex, gloves, and a toy hammers.

Marvel is really stepping it up and is continuing their Marvel Cinematic Universe by releasing two of their biggest characters on the silver screen, while DC has finally gave one emerald police his chance to shine. Plus the battle of car transforming robots will continue to wage on for the third time and one of comic's most iconic mutant teams will tell their own beginnings during the 1960s.

Here's the list of movies we've all been waiting for to get our eyes on (more movies after the jump):

(Now I'm wondering how am I going to watch all of these in theaters.. sheesh.)

Thor - May 6, 2011

Our Mjolnir-weilding thunder god's origins will finally be revealed after seeing his hammer at the end of Iron Man 2.

Stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and a recently knocked-up-by-a-ballet-dancer-but-still-hot Natalie Portman. Directed by Kenneth Branagh.

I think this is better than Marvel's official poster.

X-Men: First Class - June 3, 2011

Another origin story for our favorite mutant team of all time set in the 1960s. Its going to be weird seeing Charles Xavier with a load of hair on his feared telephatic head. Its Wesley Gibson with uber-telekenetic powers baby!

Will star James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fessbender (Magneto), January Jones (Emma Frost) and a bunch of other guys that I don't know. Directed by Michael Vaughan.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World Gets Snubbed At Oscars!

I recently read the nominees for the Best Visual Effects category in the upcoming 83rd Academy Awards which had fairly good movies vying for that particular title (image courtesy of http://oscar.go.com/):

... wait. Something's missing here.

No Scott Pilgrim vs The World? As in nothing? How could that be? This is an effin' travesty!

In case you don't know yet, SPvTW is one of the best comic book movies of 2010 according to the survey conducted by our guys at ComicbookMovie  and a lot of comic book fans agree on that as well. And in my opinion, it certainly had the sickest visual effects that you could ever find in a movie. Seriously. Its like a comic book brought to life, its packed with a lot of badassery, and would certainly give you a dose of that 1UP generated nostalgia since your childhood Nintendo days (for those of you ignorant species out there, 1UP is the best thing ever invented in video game history. Google it). Its just so damn good! Describing it to you right now through words and pictures will never ever do it justice. You gotta get your damn home theater set, sit your ass on a chair and watch it.

Shame on the Academy for snubbing this. the 7 exes will come for ya' niggas!

Comic Book Review: Batwoman # 0

Batwoman # 0
Pages: 15
Writers: J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman
Artist: J.H. Williams III
Published by: DC Comics

The first time I ever heard of Batwoman, I'm like - are you kidding me? - and with reason because I never heard of a superheroine counterpart to Batman ever existing in mainstream comics. And to my surprise, she has been around since 1956, which I didn't saw coming.

Created by Batman creator Bob Kane and artist Sheldon Moldoff, this character was purposely made - to my surprise... again - to be a love interest for Batman and also to counter the homosexuality allegations made by the book Seduction of the Innocent in 1954. And because of that, a new whole new character with a lot of potential was born, and in her newest reincarnation, Batwoman is now depicted as a lesbian... - yes you read that right, a lesbian - in an attempt by DC Comics to diversify its current demographic and attract new readers.

Now on to the book itself....

Creepy Creeps: RoboCop Scenes That I Never Saw When I Was A Kid [Videos]

I'm going back to the 90's - maybe it was 1995 when I first saw the first RoboCop (film) on TV and I thought it was awesome: a  good cop gets murdered and then was resurrected as a humanoid-robot in a full metal suit, upholding the law as a nearly-indestructible cop that gets the bad guys while putting their hands in a cookie jar. Yeah I digged that movie a lot to the point that I totally forgot about how stupid RoboCop looks like when walking so painfully slow (but I was a 10 year old back then, I didn't know better). Oh, I even had one of these Nintendo (we call it the Family Computer) games as well:

I'm a big RoboCop fan growing up as you can see. (by the way image is not mine)

So when I was stumbling on some Youtube clips of the movie, I totally realized that the movie was so creepy when I look back because of its over the top gore and violence that for some reason I missed. For example, this famous scene where Detroit cop Alex Murphy gets brutally murdered by a bunch of shotgun wielding goons, which I never ever saw back then. I most likely saw the edited version because I knew (and saw obviously) that he was shot, but not (in my wildest dreams) like this:

Talk about ruining your childhood.  I cringed when I saw this and honestly, I find the idea behind this scene really sickening to the guts.

As if this wasn't enough, we get to see RoboCop (this time in RoboCop 2) being teared up to pieces then thrown into the streets like some garbage. And if you look at his helpless face (which really creeps me out whenever I see it), it just makes it even more disturbing. (I think I saw this by the way... I think):

RoboCop getting stripped (embed is disabled so sorry you have to click on the link to see).

No doubt why I was covering my eyes whenever there's a scene with RoboCop without the frigging helmet.

Captain America Film Trailer Debuts At Super Bowl

Finally after hours of refreshing the Yahoo Movie page, I was finally able to get my eyes on the first ever Captain America: The First Avenger trailer which actually showed up on last day's Super Bowl.

Set in World War II, the movie will star Chris Evans as Steve Rogers who volunteers for the government's super-soldier program after being rejected on his first try at being part of the army. He then becomes the genetically enhanced super human to fight for truth and justice - Captain America.

The First Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Poster!

Alright, Marvel has officially released the first ever poster for the much-awaited Captain America movie starring Chris Evans, with Cap in a seemingly sad mood (and with shrapnels?? falling all over the background). Check out the full image (click it for full size) below:

Cool "Animated" X-Men, Avengers, and DC Art from Marcio Takara

I'm not reading comic books lately so I'm on the hunt again for some of the finest works of art on Deviant.

This time we have Brazilian comic book artist Marcio Takara, who according to his official website - has been working with illustrations, character design and graphic design since 2000. He also did comicbook work for companies like Marvel Comics (SpiderMan & Fantastic Four: Hard Choices), Chimaera (Consortium of Justice), Image Comics (Dynamo5) and Boom! Studios (The Incredibles).

I frankly like his style - like its really made for animation shows that we see on TV. And to be honest, I have never seen such a clean and fine style of drawing like he has. How come animation studios don't get this guy to do their flicks? This guy is absolutely fit for that in my opinion, and its a shame that we are not seeing his illustrations come alive - literally - on our TV sets.

Anyway, check out more of my favorites from his deviantArt page featuring our guys from Marvel and DC.
